Wang Hong Names the "NEW ERA" ship of CMES Shipping

20 July 2021 - The delivery and naming ceremony of "NEW ERA", a first 307,000-DWT smart VLCC ordered by CMES Shipping, was held in Dalian. Wang Hong, the Executive Vice President of China Merchants Group (CMG), attended the ceremony and named the new ship. Cai Yanyan, Vice President of the Central University of Finance and Economics, cut the cord for the new ship.

Also present at the event were Sun Wei, Deputy General Manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), Xie Chunlin, Chairman of CMES Shipping, Xu Hui and Xu Tinghui, Vice Presidents of CMES Shipping, Yang Zhizhong, the President of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC), Lin Jiming, Deputy General Manager of DSIC, and representatives from relevant government departments, important customers, ship classification societies, and local maritime universities.

At the ceremony, Wang Hong delivered the "naming speech", "I name you NEW ERA! Wish you pursue a bright and ideal future, break the waves to sail forward, and bring honor to the builder, value to the owner, and safety to the crew!"

Hu Bin, Assistant to the President of CMES Shipping and General Manager of AMCL and DSIC Deputy General Economist  Cai Zixu signed the delivery document on behalf of the two parties.


"NEW ERA", built by Dalian Shipbuilding (DSIC), is the first of the six new-gen energy-saving and eco-friendly VLCCs. "NEW ERA" boasts excellent overall indicators and superior safety and environmental performance. For instance, it satisfies the following requirements: the Harmonious Common Structural Rules (HCSR), the latest emission requirements for oxynitrides and oxysulfides, the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) of the EU, and the latest requirements of major oil companies. With world-class overall performance indicators, "NEW ERA" epitomizes the long-term and deep R&D cooperation between CMES Shipping and DSIC.
