Feng Boming Names the New Valor of CMES SHIPPING
18 June 2022 - The naming and delivery ceremony was held in Dalian for the 307,000-ton smart VLCC custom-built by DSIC for CMES Shipping. Li Jianhong, CSSC's Convener of Outside Directors, attended the ceremony; Feng Boming, Executive Vice President of CMG, named the new ship; and Ms Huang Weiqing cut the cable for the new ship. Also joining in the event online was Sun Wei, Deputy General Manager of CSSC. Other participants in the ceremony included CMES Shipping's Chairman Xie Chunlin and Vice President Hu Bin, Hu Yong, General Manager of China Merchants Taipingwan Development & Investment, DSIC's Chairman Yang Zhizong and Deputy General Managers Zheng Wei and Lin Jiming.
In his speech, Mr Feng said that New Valor is the fourth of CMES Shipping's fleet of six 307,000-ton VLCCs, and also the 23rd 300,000-ton VLCC elaborately designed and built by DSIC for CMES Shipping. When delivered for operation, the new ship would increase CMES Shipping's number of oil tankers to 56 and its total carrying capacity to 16.31 million DWT. This will in turn help optimize CMES Shipping's VLCC fleet structure, enhance its market competitiveness and brand influence, and continuously consolidate its leadership position as an owner of world-leading VLCCs. The successful delivery of New Valor fully demonstrates the mutual trust, sincere cooperation, and common growth between CMES Shipping and DSIC, and also creates a new contributor to China's dual goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
When addressing the ceremony, Mr Sun said that New Valor crystallizes the long-term R&D efforts of DSIC in the field of VLCCs, and also showcases the joint R&D results of DSIC and CMES Shipping. CMG has always been the most important friend and partner of DSIC, and DSIC is firmly determined to consolidate and expand the cooperation between both sides, and will continue to provide a series of high-quality products for CMG based on the principles of serving the ship owner and creating a win-win situation for both the ship owner and the shipbuilder.
Hu Bin, Vice President of CMES Shipping, and Lin Jiming, Deputy General Manager of DSIC, signed the ship handover documents on behalf of each side.
After the ceremony, the participating guests boarded the ship for a visit accompanied by the captain and chief engineer, talked to the crew and posed for photos with them.
Also present in the ceremony were representatives from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and DSIC.
