Hu Jianhua Attends the Signing Ceremony of the LNG Shipping Contracts (Phase II) for CNOOC Mid- and Long-Term FOB SPAS
28 April 2022 - China Merchants Group (CMG), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) held a cloud signing ceremony by videoconference in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Tianjin, China, and Tokyo, Japan. CMG President Hu Jianhua attended the ceremony.
Representatives from China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES SHIPPING), CNOOC Gas & Power Group, CNOOC Energy Technology & Services Limited, and NYK signed the general arrangement agreement of LNG Shipping Contracts (Phase II) for CNOOC Mid- and Long-Term Free on Board (FOB) as well as the shipbuilding and chartering agreements of six LNG carriers.
Hu Jianhua hoped that all parties would grasp this new starting point to establish more extensive, closer, and longer cooperation and jointly explore the development of an industry ecosystem for symbiosis and win-win results that is stabler, safer, and more reliable and controllable. Besides, in line with the principle of "long-term goals, mutual benefits and reciprocity", all parties would join hands to maintain the benign and wholesome development of the industry chain and open up broader market space for shipping and marine industries.
CMES SHIPPING has successfully invested and operated multiple long-term contracts of LNG shipping projects since 2004, making it an essential constituent of China's LNG shipping. CMG has made it clear that it is a part of the "14th Five-Year Plan" to vigorously develop the LNG shipping business. Accordingly, CMES will implement the development strategy and constantly raise its presence and input in this field.
The signing of the cooperation framework agreement will facilitate CMES to further build an energy-saving, eco-friendly, modern, and green fleet and usher in a new phase of its development strategies of low-carbon business and clean energy transportation.
Relevant responsible persons of all organizations attended the signing ceremony.

The LNG carrier model involved in the agreements is customized, based on a 174,000 m3 LNG carrier, and commensurate with the special needs of projects. It is the most forward-looking model, integrating the latest design concept, the best technology and equipment, and the strongest eco-friendly performance.
It is 299 m long, 46.4 m wide, and 26.25 m deep with a speed of 19.5 knots. It is equipped with an X-DF dual-fuel engine, the latest generation of twin-skeg lines, and GTT's latest generation of NO96 Super+ cargo containment system. It is characterized by a fast speed, a low lightship weight, low comprehensive energy consumption, wide ship-shore compatibility, convenient manipulation and operation and maintenance, a liquid cargo handling system, and strong suitability for different routes.
Compared with the same prior LNG carrier model, its loading capacity is raised by 800 m3, while its daily carbon emissions are reduced by over 10 tons. In terms of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), it has satisfied the requirements of the fourth phase in advance. Additionally, it is world-leading in energy consumption indicators, eco-friendly performance, and reliability. Meanwhile, this LNG carrier model was granted the General Design Approval (GDA) and the Pre-classification Accreditation (PCA) in December 2021 by four internationally renowned classification societies, namely the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), Lloyd's Register (LR), and DNV.
