Xie Chunlin Chairs the 2022 ABS Greater China National Committee Meeting
4 November 2022 - The 2022 ABS Greater China National Committee Meeting was held in Suzhou. Xie Chunlin, Chairman of CMES Shipping, chaired the meeting as ABS Greater China National Committee Chairman.
Mr Xie pointed out that, for the global shipping industry, it is a tough challenge to make the shift from reliance on carbon-based fossil fuels to zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It is also a complicated process of technological integration and collaboration among stakeholders. He called on enterprises in both the upstream and downstream parts of the shipping industry, as well as stakeholders in the ship industrial chain, to closely cooperate to form a synergy in GHG emission reduction and green energy transformation, and to accelerate the exploration of alternative fuels for ships, such as methanol, and practices in their application.
The ABS Greater China National Committee consists of relevant leaders in the shipping industries, such as domestic ship owners, design institutes, shipyards, and equipment manufacturers. It is one of the forums that has been established in major regions worldwide by ABS, gathering industry representatives to discuss industry needs, hot topics, and concerns, and it features strong professionalism and a powerful influence.
Nearly a hundred leaders in the shipping industry attended the annual meeting this year, and took part in heated discussions about the current market environment of the industry, including pressure for decarbonization, approaches being taken to reduce carbon, the selection of alternative energy, and digital solutions.
