CMES holds a Seminar on the EU ETS and the New IMO Regulations
20 December 2022 - CMES Shipping held a special seminar on the EU Emission Trade System (EU ETS) and the new regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Chairman Xie Chunlin required that efforts should be doubled to study international conventions and the rules of regions practicing reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, maintain the competitiveness and flexibility of CMES' fleets, and formulate a timetable and roadmap for energy replacement.
Liu Xiaofeng (Jason), DNV RGC Head of Smart Center, was invited to make a report titled Updates on Decarbonization Regulations for Shipping and Trend of Clean Energy Transformation. Meanwhile, Zhang Shuang, member of the Chinese delegation of the 79th session of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 79) and associate professor of Dalian Maritime University (DMU), was invited to make a special report on IMO MEPC 79.
The two experts explained the updates on the decarbonization regulations of the EU, the challenges and outlook of clean energy transformation, the promotion of sustainable development via green shipping, the response to transformations by deepening industry cooperation, the key points, results, and outlook of the IMO meeting, and the whole lifecycle emissions of ship fuel, and communicated and exchanged with other participants.
