4 January 2023 - CMES Shipping held the naming and delivery ceremony of New Splendor, an ultra-large crude oil tanker with a transport capacity of 307,000 tons, ordered with DSIC in Dalian. CMES Chairman, Capt. Xie Chunlin and Chairman of DSIC, Yang Zhizhong attended the event and delivered speeches. CMES Vice President, Huang Maosheng named the new vessel. Zhou Weihong, the wife of Captain Zhong Wenxin of the maiden voyage of New Vision, cut the mooring rope. Present were also DSIC Vice President Zheng Wei, Cai Zhuyi, Deputy General Manager of China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited (CSTC), Hu Bin, Vice President, Safety Director, and Chief Captain of CMES, and CMES Chief Engineer Wu Jianyi.

Xie Chunlin expressed in his speech that, New Splendor is the last one of the six next-generation energy-saving and eco-friendly VLCCs ordered with DSIC by CMES Shipping. So far, the Company's active oil tankers amount to 57, with a total DWT of 16.62 million tons. CMES Shipping will continue joining hands with DSIC to make new and greater contributions to the implementation of the strategies of building China in an ocean, shipping, and manufacturing power.

Yang Zhizhong warmly congratulated on the delivery of New Splendor. He pointed out, CMES Shipping and DSIC jointly completed important projects, such as New Valor and New Aden. He expected that both parties, will continue to work together to contribute to China's maritime undertaking and marine economy in the coming year.

Hu Bin, Cai Zhuyi, and Zheng Wei on behalf of CMES, CSTC, and DSIC, respectively, signed the certificate of ship handover.

About New Splendor

New Splendor is an experimental ship developed from the scientific research project of the "integrated engineering application of energy conservation technologies for large oil tankers in line with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 requirements” under the special project of green and eco-friendly ships of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT). This ship adopts the technology of air layer drag reduction, a new energy conservation technology with completely independent intellectual property rights. An appropriate volume of gas was injected by the air layer drag reduction system into the hull bottom to form and maintain a thin gas layer so as to effectively separate the hull from water and significantly reduce the frictional resistance of the hull. Thanks to its apparent energy-saving effect and compliance with EEDI indicators, this technology becomes the best breakthrough in the satisfaction with the energy efficiency indicators in the EEDI Phase 3 requirements.

Meanwhile, the ship is equipped with the Integrated Control & Energy Efficiency System (ICEE) for which DSIC has independent intellectual property rights. This system enables the integration of the state monitoring and energy-saving effect assessment of devices, the start and stop control function of the air layer drag reduction system in combination of comprehensive judgment based on the external environment and the navigation status, and the system communication self-inspection function, and can intuitively display the communication status of each module of the system in real-time. It not only achieves the interconnection of important devices, such as ship automation, navigation, and air layer drag reduction, at the OT layer, but also brings in functions, such as outer net exit control, intranet management, and safety audit, from the IT perspective. As a result, the ship meets the requirements for Cyber Security (S), CCS's additional safety mark for ship networking, and creates a safe, stable, and reliable network environment for all functions of the system.

New Splendor boasts significant environmental protection and economical economic efficiency, conforms to the Harmonized Common Structural Rules (HCSR), the nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide emission standards, the latest regulations and rules, and the European Union's requirements for lists of hazardous substances. Additionally, it satisfies world-class comprehensive performance indicators and is a main direction of future ship development in the world.
