14 to 15 February 2023 - The delegation of Hainan Province held economic, trade, and cultural exchange activities in Hong Kong, to promote the Hainan Free Trade Port (Hainan HFTP), share open opportunities, and seek cooperation and common development. Chairman Miao Jianmin and President Hu Jianhua of China Merchants Group (CMG) were invited to attend the "Exchange Meeting of Chinese-funded Enterprises in Hong Kong", a special promotional activity of the Hainan FTP in Hong Kong, on February 15. Li Yadong, Assistant to the President of CMG and Chairman of China Merchants Hoi Tung Trading Company Co., Ltd., attended another special promotional activity on the theme "New Era, New Opening-up, and New Business Opportunities".

CMG is in the first group of central enterprises that settled down in Hainan after China announced to build Hainan into a pilot free trade zone and free trade port with Chinese characteristics. As of the end of 2022, CMG's assets in Hainan exceeded RMB45 billion.
