25 September 2016 - One of CMES's bulk carriers, "Pacific Spirit", rescued a German Crewman in the Indian Ocean.

Herrmann, a German mariner, was travelling by sailboat in the Indian Ocean in early September when the rudder blocked and later the sails became torn. Herrmann was very depressed and reportedly informed his son in Germany of his condition.

On 24th September, "Pacific Spirit" received a "Shore-to-ship Distress Alert" transmitted by the JRCC Australia: Sailing yacht has reported a steering failure and a German crewman on board requesting evacuation. "Pacific Spirit" then changed its original course, arriving at the central waters of the Indian Ocean, 150 nautical miles away, after more than 10 hours of rapid voyage. The distressed vessel, however, was not easy to approach due to strong winds. The crew of "Pacific Spirit" spent two hours attempting to close in on the smaller craft and finally rescued the German sailor. Once rescued, being among a crew of such friendly and helpful people buoyed Hermann’s spirits and he soon found new hope replacing his depression. He was well taken care of and his physical condition was normal according to preliminary examination.

Due to the organization and kind help of "Pacific Spirit", Herrmann was safely returned to Germany after some good days on board. He wrote to us expressing great thankfulness to "Pacific Spirit" and CMES. "I never met so friendly and helpful people before and I will never forget this."

Assisting people in distress at sea is a maritime obligation. On 16th July 2014, CMES's bulk carrier, "Pacific Pioneer" rescued four Philippine Fishermen from water when deadly super Typhoon Wilson hit that area.
